FAQ

Should I self-publish my manuscript or submit it to a traditional publisher?
This totally depends on your book and your goals and personality. Some don’t want to spend any money, and don’t want to worry about their own distribution and marketing. If that sounds like you, I would recommend submitting your book to a traditional publisher. If you want total control over the process, like your cover design, edits, and profits, self-publishing was meant for you. Self-publishing means you’ll need to invest some money in the project, but you will make more money off each book sold because you control the retail price, number of copies sold, and advertising, so you can make as much as you want, instead of waiting for a royalty check for a small percentage of each book sold.
How much will it cost to self-publish my book through you?
It depends on how many words your book is, and some other factors. Refer to pricing chart.
What is included in a self-publishing package through you?
Full package includes 2 edits; 1 proofread; interior layout; full cover design; prepress; Amazon and BISAC code and retail price assistance up to 1 hour; ISBN and barcode assistance; hardcopy printing quotes; and up to 2 hours assisstance with title brainstorm, author bio, back cover copy, and ad copy
How final/clean should my manuscript be before I submit it?
Your manuscript should be fairly final. I usually recommend that you already have had at least 3 beta readers. Our talented substantive/content editor can help you resolve some final issues or point out small plot holes or character inconsistencies, but unless you’re willing to pay for multiple substantive edits, you’ll want to have it good condition. You don’t need to worry too much about grammar, punctuation, typos, etc. Our copyeditors will help to fix all of those issues.
Will I get any say on my cover design?
Yes! You will be paired with a talented designer, who will create a custom cover design based on answers to a cover design survey that you will be sent. There are limitless revisions (within reason) until we get it right. You can provide your own images, or we can provide stock images, if needed.
How much will I make on selling my ebooks?
This depends on where you plan to sell your ebook. If you sell through Amazon, you usually make about 70% of whatever Amazon sold the book for.
How much will I make on selling my print books?
This again depends where you plan to sell your book. If you sell through Amazon, there are several different types of things you can have Amazon do for you, including fulfilment. Different plans cost different amounts.
Do I get to keep my book rights?
Yes! The copyright, ISBN, and imprint is in your name (or company). We do not hold any of your rights.
Will I get royalties?
No. You own all your book rights, and therefore all your profits, besides whatever cut that Amazon takes, if you are selling your book on Amazon.
How long is the self-publishing process?
This is really up to you, but we aim for two-week turnaround or less on each task. So if you are doing a full self-publishing package, it can go as fast as 9 weeks from you getting us your manuscript, to books in hand. It just depends on how fast your turnaround is to respond back with us after each task. The more typical timeline is 14 weeks.
Can you print my books?
We don’t offer book printing directly, but we do have connections and rates with many printers around the world and can help you find the best printer for your project, if you would rather not use Amazon or IngramSpark’s Print on Demand options. Included in the full package are up to 3 printing quotes that we will send out to printers with your specs, and then you can work with the printer directly and pay them.
Do you help with marketing or distribution?
We don’t offer these types of services at this time. However we may be able to provide you with some basic understanding, or refer you to other business that can help you with this.
Can you offer help with listing and selling my book on Amazon?
We do offer some basic help with this (up to several hours) if you purchase a full self-publishing package through us.
Can I purchase a la carte services through you, such as just a copyedit?
Yes! Since we know you may have an editor wife or designer best friend, we try to just be able to fill in the holes for whatever you need to get your book published.  You can purchase any a la carte items, or full packages.
